Volunteer to protect wildlife Volunteering is a great way to make a difference.  Wildlife and wild places need people who care.  We volunteer with biologists working in the field and with schools and other educational venues that want to create wildlife habitat.  Wildlife needs people who will do whatever it takes to make a better environment.

ADOPT-A-NORTHERN FLYING SQUIRREL--In an effort to help fund a monitoring project by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Mountain WILD! is offering an adoption program for the Carolina northern flying squirrel.  The Carolina northern flying squirrel is an endangered species that lives in the upper elevations of our western mountains. Contact Simone to make your tax deductible contribution and receive your adoption kit.

We get MANY questions about bears.  Biologist Mike Carraway recommends two web sites that will help us all be more conscious of our bear neighbors.  We have to keep food sources away from bears...this includes bird feeders, garbage, and pet food. The state wildlife commission does not relocated problem bears. Humans create problem bears by making food available.  We can learn to live with bears but it is up to us to help them not become problems. Check out the links below for more information.
